Bird Shoals

For just $13 for adults and $7 for children and under you can take a ride to another well-kept secret, Bird Shoals, which offers more for the beach combers and those looking for a quiet secret place to just “get away.” Local legend says that it got its name from a captain who saw birds on the shoal. Bird Island is great for beachcoming, relaxing, sandbars and shallow protected swimming which also connects to Carrot Island.

On the island, you will find 3 miles of pristine beach, a great view of the Beaufort Inlet. This is also a local spot for finding sand dollars and smaller shells.

Want horses too? You’re in luck!

As part of the Rachel Carson estuary, at low tide the horses can cross from one island to the next, moving on to pastures located on Bird Shoals. The shallow protected waters offer excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunities. Bird Shoals offers an excellent alternative to Shackelford Banks, where beaches can sometimes be too busy for families with small children.

Reservations for Bird Shoals are not required, however you can contact us today to make a one.
